Teaching Innovator Grant Awarded at North Daviess Community Schools

Our Community Foundation has announced the first-semester recipients of its Teaching Innovator Grants. North Daviess Community Schools received a $250 grant for Book Bento Boxes. Teacher Kami Giesler accepted the award and was named a Teaching Innovator.
According to Giesler, the purpose of this project is to create displays for books that they read that can be displayed in the library to promote reading the books that they have chosen. The project will have a picture of the book cover on the lid. When the lid is removed, there will be items in the box that relate to the story. Students will be asked to present their box to their class. A written explanation will also be provided for when the boxes are on display in the media center. The elementary library will be offered to display any boxes that would be appropriate for younger ages. Contact will also be made with the local library to see if they would like to display any boxes. Students will be told from the beginning of the project that the final products will be placed on public display.
Giesler states that the project will share the joy of reading with all ages. It will also allow students to tap into their creativity to create displays for others to learn about the books.
“This program is a strategic investment in the education of Daviess County youth,” said Travis Schaffer, president of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. “By empowering educators to innovate and create dynamic learning environments that meet students’ diverse needs, this funding helps prepare our youth for success in an ever-changing world.”
Our Community Foundation is proud to support innovative teaching across area schools. The generosity of our donors makes investments like this possible, helping educators strengthen classroom practice and expand opportunities for local students.
